TO HONOR MOM'S HERITAGE
My maternal side of the family came across the deep seas
of the Atlantic Ocean from England, Ireland and the Netherlands. To think of this journey across the water on the old sailing
vessels, some with infants, young children, their elderly grandparents. How exciting but also very frightening to undertake
a long journey such as this.
Our RYERSE Family sailed from Amsterdam, Holland, Netherlands
and first lived in New York and New Jersey area until after the Revolution. Then settled in Canada.

Our earliest known ancestor is REIJER of Amsterdam, Holland. A picture of Nieuwe Kerk,
(New Church) at top right where our ancestors were married. The spelling of REIJER was modified and Americanized a few times.
We see it now commonly as RYERSE and RYERSON.
*** And I must give a very special thank you to Phyllis A. Ryerse
and Thomas A. Ryerson for all the assist in helping me to find my Ryerse Family connections. A wealth of family information
has been researched by Phyllis and Tom and published in their book; "RYERSE-RYERSON FAMILY 1574 - 1994" Published
by T.A. Ryerson & Son for Ryerse-Ryerson Family Association, P.O. Box 262, Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada N5C 3K5, 1994.

Our PETHERAM Family were from Somerset County, England and also chose Canada for their
new home before my branch migrated to Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Roy Allen for his book;
"A History Remembered" "The Petherams of Somerset, England and Norfolk, Canada," 1999. And also to; Hazel
Dick Marx for her book; "The Descendants Of George Harley Souter And Jane Petheram Souter, Published in 1988. McDowell Publications,
11129 Pleasant Ridge Road, Utica, KY 42376.
Our REED Family are believed to be from Ireland.
But I have not proven this yet. They also settled in Lynedoch, Ontario, Canada, migrating to Saugatuck, Allegan County, Michigan
sometime in the 1870's. I have not been able to confirm the family in Lynedoch yet.
And
our NEYMEIYER'S were from Sleen, Drenthe, Netherlands, settling into Western Michigan area in Kent County, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Ancestor's & Descendant's of Lurah Melissa REED NEYMEIYER
& John NEYMEIYER, also spelled Jan NIJMEIJER, will be written of in the next few pages.
